Police Crime Intelligence Analyst will work out of the Investigative Division of the Police Department. The Crime Intelligence Analyst will gather information from police records, surveillance, evidence databases, informants, financial records, telephone and other communication devices. This information will be transformed into viable information to be used for the prevention of crime, making arrests, planning, implementing, and evaluating policing strategies. Will prepare a weekly crime log for the weekly LESS meeting. Additionally, the incumbent will attend meetings and events pertaining to crime analysis as assigned

Incumbent serves as

DUTIES:

Conduct technical analyses and evaluation of date or criminal activity.

Uses reporting and date analysis tools to improve the quality and use of the data.

Maintain cross reference files of criminal and case information to supplement and enhance officer incident reports; proactively collect quantitative and qualitative data from other sources, including multi agency databases.

Maintain all violent crime records for further and future analysis.

Collaborate with the South Bend Police Dept. Crime Center by retrieving information as well as providing information to the center.

Collaborate with other local law enforcement agencies to identify and gather information on crime trends.

Communicate intelligence and information to department staff in creative and useful formats; summarize and present completed analyses at regular or periodic meetings with administrative or other staff as requested.

Assists investigators in the development/confirmation of investigative intelligence.

Assists with routine administrative duties as required.

I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

High School diploma

College degree and working knowledge of criminal analytics preferred

II. RESPONSIBILITY:

Conduct technical analyses and evaluation of intelligence data or criminal activity and correlate new information with assisting information.

Uses reporting and data analysis tools to improve quality and use of data.

Maintain cross reference files of criminal and case information to supplement and enhance officer incident reports.

Interact with representatives of other law enforcement agencies.

Use various social media applications to monitor activities in the community

Assist with training as pertains to crime analysis and reporting as well as broad subject matter in law enforcement.

Prepare weekly crime reports.

Other duties as assigned by the Detective Bureau Commander or his designee.

III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other local police departments, Federal law enforcement agencies.

Incumbent reports directly to the Detective Bureau Commander or their designee.

IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Incumbent performs duties in an office environment, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting/standing/walking for long periods, keyboarding, lifting/carrying objects/pushing/pulling weighing under 25 pounds, bending/reaching, handling/grasping/fingering objects, close/far vision, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may be exposed to hostile or irate individuals.

Incumbent is occasionally required to work extended hours and evenings and occasionally required to travel out of town, sometimes overnight.

V. OTHER:

The incumbent is a police department employee. All Police employees are required to maintain a high ethical standard both at work and outside of work. Will maintain confidentiality of all matters as it pertains to active cases. All information to be shared initially will be with the approval of the Detective Bureau Commander or his designee.

Pay commensurate with experience between $48,000 t0 $52,000 per annum.
