Incumbent serves as Mortgage Bankruptcy Manager for the St. Joseph County Treasurer’s Office, responsible for maintaining and processing mortgage paperwork and assisting the public.

Responsibilities
- Maintains lending codes for mortgage companies, banks, and other lending institutions, updating information received from each lender, adding and deleting parcels as requested, generating reports/printouts, and verifying data in office database. Mails bills to homeowners as appropriate.
- Opens and processes daily mail, generating correspondence and placing telephone calls as necessary. Responds to telephone and counter inquiries from mortgage companies, title companies, banks, other lending institutions and taxpayers, verifying/providing information as needed.
- Researches and responds to mortgage companies concerning erroneous payments. Prints and mails bills, payment listing to mortgage companies as requested, Answers office telephone and assists at counter as needed. Assists Chief Deputy with surplus duties as needed.
- Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers other County departments, mortgage companies, banks, title companies, and the public for purposes of exchanging information and rendering services.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of standard office procedures; equipment such as computers, keyboard, calculator and computer software used by the department. Knowledge of standard filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate and organized files.
- Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepare written reports and documents as required. Ability to balance large sums of money and count/make simple arithmetic additions/subtractions. Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment. Ability to work extended, morning/evening/weekend hours as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, mortgage companies, banks, title companies, and the public.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge of state laws pertaining to tax collections and policies, practices, and legal requirements of the Department, with ability to effectively respond to inquiries and apply appropriate procedures accordingly.
Physical Requirements
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment, involving sitting for long periods, sitting/walking at will, keyboarding, lifting/carrying objects weighing under 25 pounds, bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, close vision, hearing sounds/communication, speaking clearly, and handling/grasping/fingering objects. Incumbent maintains frequent contact with the public and may be exposed to irate/difficult individuals. Incumbent occasionally works extended, morning/evening/weekend hours as needed.
