Description:

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office in South Bend, Indiana is seeking an attorney to join its Child Support Division. Our new Deputy Prosecutor will become part of a high-volume office with an opportunity to gain extensive court experience. The position will become available on November 18, 2024.

 

The Child Support Division establishes paternity, modifies and enforces child support orders, and files felony non-support charges when appropriate.

 

Prosecutor Kenneth Cotter heads the office of the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and along with his team of deputy prosecutors, child support workers, support staff and investigators are committed to ensuring the families receive the child support to which they are entitled.

 

We believe that continual improvement is essential to providing our community with the service it deserves. To that end, deputy prosecutors are encouraged to attend local, state and national training conferences and are provided guidance and feedback on performance.

 

Currently the salary for this position is $74,740 per year, but beginning January 1, 2025, the salary will be $80,740 per year. Essential Functions:

 

The duties of the Deputy Prosecutor include drafting and reviewing pleadings, preparing and prosecuting cases in court, working with other Deputy Prosecutors and caseworkers to develop case plans, maintaining a criminal non-support case load, and meeting with parents to reach agreements on paternity and child support. Attorneys must be able to work closely with fellow attorneys in a cooperative manner. Position requires self-confidence and ability to speak competently to case participants, Courts, and other professionals. Individuals must be able to quickly evaluate and re-evaluate case status in the give and take atmosphere of the justice system.

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence and license to practice law in Indiana
  • Possess good written and oral skills
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule
  • Maintain good standing with the Indiana Supreme Court including maintaining good status with Continuing Legal Education requirements and fees
  • Desire to improve the lives of citizens of St. Joseph County
