
Office Assistant
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT of ST. JOSEPH COUNTY OFFICE ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Solid Waste District Director
$17/per hour
20hrs per week
FLSA non-exempt status
GENERAL DUTIES:
The "OFFICE ASSISTANT" is under the supervision of the Director and works closely with the Program Assistant and HHW Supervisor to perform a variety of administrative functions and duties of the District.
DUTIES:
Greet residents and guests to the office and direct them to the appropriate location/person.
Answer questions or transfers to appropriate person through phone or email.
Help residents with information on recycling and the recycling program.
Send/receive, sort, disburse mail, email, and other deliveries between offices.
Assist in routine cleaning, stocking and light maintenance which may include service providers.
Assist Director during Committee, Board, and Council meetings through scheduling, communication, and record keeping.
Maintain complete, accurate and organized file system.
Help with correcting changes and errors in curbside recycling database.
Works with Household Hazardous Waste facility to receive accepted items, sort and put away according to training. This is during the Saturday shift and as necessary.
Assist the Director in other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.
Experience in prioritizing and coordinating workflow of the office, workload and deadlines.
General knowledge of computer hardware and software as well as telecommunications systems.
Good communication skills and ability to work directly with the public.
A valid driver’s license is required.

Will need to work in indoor and outdoor environments.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
