Description

• Works in a team environment to plan, conduct and evaluate natural and cultural history programs for school groups and the public, including special events.

• Assists with the design and production of interpretive exhibits and brochures for all park sites.

• Assists with assessment of resource management issues at all county parks.


Essential Functions:

• Prepares and conducts natural and cultural history programs, including summer nature camps, nature/themed hikes, school field trips, general public programs and programs for special interest groups.

• Assists with preparing literature on natural resources and programs in the county parks (mapping, brochures, etc.).

• Assists with the coordination of interpretive special events, including Running Wild.

• Assists with maintenance of kiosks at various park locations.

• Assists with Leisure Services operations within the parks including canoe/kayak rental and disc golf rental.

• Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications: 

• Must possess comprehensive knowledge in the appropriate fields of natural science and cultural history. Must understand the principles and techniques of quality interpretation.

• Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Must be able to present programming to all audiences (preschool through Senior age as well as special needs).

• Must have adequate transportation to commute between parks when park vehicle is not available.

• Must have the physical ability to conduct on-trail programs and trail maintenance (walk, stand, crouch, kneel).

• Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds.

• Familiarity with computers: word processing, graphic programs, helpful.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends

• Must be able to work effectively with all staff to promote a team concept.

● Working toward, or possess a degree in interpretation, environmental education, natural science, elementary education or related field OR

● Have experience working with children and conducting programs for schools and the public, OR any equivalent of education/experience.
